August 2022 Newsletter

I do like this time of year.💚  You can feel the cold of winter leaving and a beautiful Qld spring is just around the corner!  It’s the perfect opportunity to spend a bit of time in the garden and the veggies are very appreciative.  Snow peas & lettuce 🥬 have been the winner so far but I digress.

Musically there is a lot going on as well. 🎹

Personally, there are plenty of gigs with Qld Wind and Brass, Lynch & Paterson musicals and the Voices of Birralee Recycled Choir.  Live music is well and truly back and it’s great to see! 👩‍🎤 I’d love to know what you’re up to, whether it’s a Sunday sesh at the local pub, the school band doing their first 5-note concert 🎷or a performance at QPAC.  It’s all good stuff!

There’s also plenty happening in music retail of course so scroll down to see the latest with Focusrite interfaces, exciting news about Elixir 3 packs, instrument specials, new releases and a fantastic opportunity “Together Sing” to celebrate singing and the links to mental health.

If you haven’t already, I’d love you to like the Other Music Facebook Page and follow us on Instagram.  If nothing else, you’ll get a good chuckle every Friday!

As always, feel free to contact me for any inquiries or questions.  I’m here to help.  And of course, you’re welcome to forward this email to any friends or family you think would benefit from hearing about Other Music! 🙏

Here’s what’s happening this month:

All the best and stay safe and well,

Sarah

Elixir String 3 Packs Coming Soon!

Guitar players celebrate! 🥳 The beloved Elixir string 3 packs are back! They’ve been missed over the past couple of years so there’s a lot of excitement in guitar circles regarding their return.  As usual, they are only available for a limited time and are due to arrive late September.  I would recommend pre-ordering some as most will be already sold by the time the land in Australia.  I’d hate you to miss out!

Not sure what I’m even talking about with Elixir Strings?  In short, they’re coated long-life guitar strings designed to hold their tone, feel and tuning longer than regular guitar strings.

From Elixir themselves:

  • GREAT TONE THAT LASTS Elixir Strings has the longest lasting tone compared to any string, coated or uncoated. Sounds great gig after gig. Session after session.
  • CORROSION RESISTANCE With featherweight coatings and anti-rust plating, our strings are protected against tone-killing debris and stand up to sweaty hands and humidity.
  • RELIABLE PERFORMANCE Elixir Strings can withstand wildly fluctuating temperatures, and even the worst of humidity. Our strings deliver consistent performance no matter the environment.
  • GREATER TUNING STABILITY Players report Elixir Strings stay in tune for longer, eliminating endless tunings that keep your guitars from consistently sounding their best.

They’re available for electric and acoustic guitars, in the most widely used gauges. Fantastic value too.  3 Sets for the price of 2! To check out the range and place your order, click on the green button below.

Focusrite Interfaces!

Does your interface need an upgrade?  Need a second one to use live so your studio interface can stay where it is?  Not sure where to look?

We can help with everything music technology related and that includes the fantastic interfaces from Focusrite. Starting from only $179 for the Scarlett Solo, they are great value.  Particularly with the newly reduced retail pricing across the range.

If you have any questions or need a hand with any tech questions, just contact us and we’ll be able to steer you in the “rite” 😂 direction! Check out the Focusrite range below.

Selmer Prelude Specials – Nearly Gone!

This has been such a popular promotion that half the instruments have already sold out! 😲 There are only a few instruments left at these fantastic specials so if you’re looking for a great value student sax or trumpet, these are for you.  Don’t delay as I don’t think they’ll even last until the end of August!

Together Sing!

Both Hazzardsound and Other Music are very proud to support Together Sing.  I was privileged enough to perform the piano accompaniment for the support materials, utilising Andrew Hazzard’s expert recording skills.

From the fabulous Debbie O’Shea & Deb Brydon (organisers extraordinaire!):

The aim of Together Sing is to raise awareness of the value of Music Education and singing together to improve mental health and wellbeing.

Together Sing is a culminating week-long event during Mental Health Week. Participating schools and community groups sing a song specifically composed for the occasion. Digital downloads including lyrics, audio files, scores and other support material are available for all registered participants free of charge. This has been made possible through our partnership program coordinated by Kodály Qld. Together Sing Partners have generously donated time and expertise to provide these resources. Please take time to peruse and possibly support these partners.

In the months leading up to the performance week, schools and community groups can use the song and support materials to engage in activities based around the music, singing and the benefits of making music together including belonging, community and confidence.

During Mental Health Week, participants gather in their own context to perform the song together and immerse themselves in the joy and benefits of making music together. Our 2022 song, Where We Begin, is composed by a fabulous Australian Composer, Slade Gibson and arranged by another of our favourite Australia Composers, Will Brown.
