August 2020 Newsletter

Did you know that 24th August is International Strange Music Day?  I’ll admit that I didn’t, but I love the concept.  It was created by Patrick Grant, a New York musician and the premise is simple: to get people to play and listen to types of music that have never experienced before.  The “strange” part can mean either unfamiliar or bizarre – the choice is yours.  I haven’t chosen my new experience yet and I’d be very interested to know what you decide to go with.

We are very fortunate that many band rehearsals are able to take place again, even with plenty of social distancing taking place.  I will be the first to admit that I hadn’t looked inside my clarinet case for a number of months once rehearsals stopped and was worried about what I might find!  I checked the night before our first rehearsal back and took the opportunity to sterilise the mouthpiece and replace the cleaning swab.  It seems I wasn’t alone!
