October 2020 Newsletter

I know Halloween is sometimes seen as a very American thing to do but it’s becoming more and more popular here in Australia and I do love the fun of it all. I have very fond memories of being in the USA in the late 70s, getting dressed up and going trick or treating with my American cousins.  Is it wrong that I was most excited about having an enormous paper grocery bag (you know the old style ones) full of lollies!!  From memory, they lasted the rest of the trip.

We’re going to have some “spooky specials” later in the month so keep an eye out on Facebook and Instagram.

There’s some exciting news about new products, Christmas and present giftware ideas (is it that time already?) and some great print music specials to read about below.  And, we have a call out to support a long term customer/friend/teacher, Kathryn McLennan, who is one of only 4 finalists in the Aria Music Teacher Awards for 2020.

As always, feel free to contact us for any inquiries or questions.  We’re here to help!

MacDaddy Stomp Boxes at Other Music

I love supporting Australian Made products and you don’t get much more local than the Sunshine Coast in Qld.  MacDaddy stompboxes have been around since 2012 and are individually hand made using Australian timber.

What is a stompbox you ask?  According to Wikipedia: “A stompbox is a simple percussion instrument consisting of a small box placed under the foot, which is tapped or stamped on rhythmically to produce a sound similar to that of a bass drum. A stompbox allows a performer such as a singer or a guitar player to create a simple rhythmic self-accompaniment.”

I think this very aptly describes what they are and these days they usually come with an in-built pickup so they can be amplified through a PA or amp.  We’ve also found them really useful for teachers wanting to keep an audible steady beat while they are conducting, singing or playing another instrument.  The possibilities are endless!

There are a few different styles; some you put your whole foot on, others are used with your heel on the floor and some have jingles for a cool tambourine sound to go with the stomp.

We also have a few that have been barely played and are near new.  They’re cheaper and great value!!

Vote for Qld in the Aria Music Teacher Awards 2020

I’m so excited for Kathryn McLennan and Virginia State School.  I’ve known Mrs Mac (as she is affectionately known) for nearly 30 years and she is one of the most inspirational teachers I have ever met.  She is so deserving of this nomination and I’ll do everything I can to help her win!!

Check out the YouTube clip featuring the music programme, Mrs Mac and the big reveal when she realised she was one of the 4 finalists.  It’s just beautiful.  I was lucky enough to go on the band tour with Virginia State School a few years ago and I can vouch for the amazing work that she does.

I know there are many teachers in Qld that are deserving of this accolade but as Mrs Mac is the only Qld finalist, I encourage you to get behind her and vote as often as you can.  You’re actually allowed one vote a day for the next eight weeks!!  Here’s the link: http://www.aria.com.au/vote
